Used AI in your video? Check if it needs an AI label
List what AI did in your video; get a plain read on YouTube's and TikTok's AI-label rules before you post.
What it does
No bot required. Using AI to brainstorm ideas, outline a script, or make a title or thumbnail is common, and YouTube says production help like that doesn't need a label. What does need one on YouTube is realistic content that makes a real person appear to say or do something they didn't, alters footage of a real event or place, shows a realistic scene that never happened, or uses AI music as the main focus. TikTok asks creators to label content that's fully generated or significantly edited by AI, requires labels on realistic AI images, audio and video, and doesn't allow some AI content at all, like the likeness of anyone under 18 or of an adult private person without their permission. Paste a quick list of what AI did in your video into any chat AI and it sorts each use into "no label," "label it," or "check the page," and tells you where the switch is. Good for gaming and tech channels using AI b-roll, voice tools or thumbnails. You flip the setting yourself. Rules change, so the platform pages are the final word.

Before I post, help me decide whether my video needs an AI label, using YouTube's "Disclosing use of GenAI content" help page and TikTok's "About AI-generated content" page. Platform: [YouTube / YouTube Shorts / TikTok / both] What AI did in this video: [e.g. wrote my script outline / cleaned up my audio / made the thumbnail / generated b-roll of a real city / cloned my own voice for a dub / face swap / AI song as the main track] 1. Sort each AI use into "No label needed," "Label needed," or "Not sure, check the platform page," based on the platforms' own examples: - YouTube's no-disclosure examples: clearly unrealistic content; minor edits like beauty, color or lighting filters, background blur, captions, upscaling or audio repair; idea generation; production help like an AI outline, script, thumbnail, title or infographic; cloning my own voice for voice-overs or dubs; gameplay footage. - YouTube says disclose realistic AI content that makes a real person appear to say or do something they didn't, alters footage of a real event or place, creates a realistic scene that didn't happen, or AI-made music that's the main focus. - TikTok asks me to label content fully generated or significantly edited by AI (people shown doing or saying things they didn't, or faces changed so the person isn't recognizable) and requires labels on realistic AI images, audio and video. Content made only with TikTok's own AI effects may be labeled automatically. 2. If a label is needed, tell me where it is: YouTube's "AI use" setting in YouTube Studio when I upload; TikTok's "AI-generated content" setting under More options before posting. I turn it on myself. 3. Stop-and-rethink flags (cut it, don't just label it): TikTok doesn't allow AI content showing the likeness of anyone under 18, or of an adult private person without their permission, fake authoritative sources or crisis events, or public figures shown endorsing something. 4. If something is borderline, say "label it to be safe" and point me to the platform's help page. Remind me rules change, so check the page if it's been a while. Keep the answer short. This is a checklist, not a ruling from the platform.
