Room-by-room home inventory for insurance

Walk each room with your phone; your bot builds a list of what you own with photos, models and receipts, saved somewhere off-site.

What it does

If a fire, storm or break-in ever happens, your insurance company may ask you to show what you owned and what it was worth, and most people can't remember half of it. Your bot walks you through one room at a time (closets, garage, shed and attic too) and turns your photos and quick voice notes into a list: description, brand, model and serial number, about when you bought it and what it cost. Receipts you send get attached to the right item. It saves the list off-site, as state insurance regulators recommend, and reminds you once a year and after big purchases to update it. Renters need one too, and a move is a good time to start. It organizes; questions about your coverage go to your agent.

Copy-paste prompt

Help me build a home inventory for insurance, one room at a time.

Our home: [house / apartment]. Rooms and storage areas: [list, including garage, shed, attic, basement, closets, porch].
Where to save it: [a cloud folder or notes doc I connect]. Keep it somewhere outside the house.

1. Do one room or area per session, about [15] minutes. Tell me what to photograph: a wide shot of each wall, then close-ups of valuable items and their model/serial stickers.
2. When I send photos or a voice note, add each item to a table: room, item, brand, model, serial number, about when bought, about what it cost, and whether I have a receipt. Leave a blank rather than guess.
3. When I send a receipt photo, attach it to the matching item.
4. Use the NAIC home inventory checklist so nothing gets missed: furniture, electronics, appliances, clothing, tools, collectibles, jewelry, holiday decorations, bikes and exercise gear.
5. Every [January], and after any purchase over [$300], remind me to update the list.
6. When we finish, give me a short summary by room and a rough total, so I can ask my agent whether my coverage limits are high enough.

Don't give insurance or legal advice. Never put account numbers or passwords in the inventory.
